Description
One of many Historic Landmarks in Lancaster, Ohio recognized by the National Register of Historic Places. This Federal Style mansion was built for Thomas Ewing in 1824 in Lancaster, Ohio. Ewing was a prominent lawyer, U.S. Senator, Secretary of the Treasury under Presidents Harrison and Tyler, and frequent advisor to President Lincoln. It was also the home of Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman from age nine and later in 1850 W.T. Sherman married the oldest Ewing daughter, Ellen.
